It’s no secret that research and practice supports independent reading as one of the best ways to build strong, capable students. We all want kids to read more, and I think there are some simple steps to get your students to read more. Coupled with independent reading is the importance of choice. Students need a voice and choice when it comes to their selections for independent reading. And, we can make a difference in the lives of readers by supporting their efforts. The “readbox” is, of course, a play off of “redbox.” It’s a great way to way to display and create interest in books as well as support reading choice.
